A Dachshund is a hound in a compact chassis. Expect a strong nose, a big voice and a stubborn streak that turns into charm once you stop arguing with it. They bond hard to one or two people and will follow those people from room to room.
Three coat types are available - smooth, long-haired and wire-haired - and standard or miniature sizing. Miniatures are the more common choice in apartments across Dubai and Sharjah.
Care essentials
- No stairs and no jumping off sofas while the puppy is growing; use a ramp and protect the long back.
- Keep them lean. Extra weight is the single biggest risk factor for spinal disc problems.
- Start doorbell and balcony-noise training early or the barking becomes a habit.
