Yorkies were ratting dogs in Yorkshire mills before they were lap dogs, and the terrier is still in there: brave, nosy and up for a challenge. They stay playful for years and travel well.
The coat is hair rather than fur, so shedding is minimal - a common reason families choose the breed. Most UAE owners keep it in a short puppy cut rather than at floor length.

- Daily brushing at long coat length, or a trim every six weeks in a puppy cut.
- Treat them like a dog, not an accessory - unearned carrying creates reactive little dogs.
